GSCE French
Students will continue to study the new GCSE course, with the first examination series in Summer 2026. They will study the following:
Themes
My Personal World : Family, friends, relationships and equality.
Lifestyle and Wellbeing: Physical and mental wellbeing. Food, drink and sports.
My Neighbourhood: Places in town, shopping, the natural word and environment.
Studying and My Future: School and future opportunities.
Travel and Tourism: Transport, accommodation and tourist attractions.
Grammar
The present, preterite, imperfect, perfect, pluperfect, future and conditional tenses.
HOW STUDENTS WILL STUDY
Students will continue to develop their listening, speaking, reading and written skills in lessons. They will be expected to learn new vocabulary and phrases as well as verb endings for a variety of tenses. All of this will enable students to improve their competence in understanding and communicating in French. They will have the opportunity to learn about the French culture and way of life.
DEPARTMENT STRENGTHS AND RESOURCES
We are a highly successful department with very good GCSE results. We have excellent resources and regularly use ICT and interactive games to enhance and consolidate students’ learning.
HOW STUDENTS WILL BE ASSESSED
100% Examination at the end of the course.

French is an important world language and a qualification in a Modern Foreign Language will open many career paths including Business and Marketing, Tourism, the Media, Journalism, Law, the Travel Industry, Teaching, ICT, Interpreting, the Army, the Navy, the Air Force, and the Hotel and Catering industry.
Employers value employees with a Modern Foreign Language and combining a language with Science, Mathematics, ICT or Business can greatly enhance career prospects.
