Physical Education (Core)
In line with the National Curriculum, the PE department aims to offer every student the chance to experience high-quality physical education, that will develop personal fitness and inspire them to be more active by developing a lifelong understanding of leading a healthy and active lifestyle through physical activity and sport. Our curriculum offer also gives students the opportunity to experience a range of physical activities, stay physically active for sustained periods and engage in competitive sports.
At Key Stage 4, students will follow a more personalised curriculum offer designed to motivate them to develop a lifelong appreciation for physical activity. Students will develop their technique and improve their performance in competitive sports and other physical activities. Furthermore, Students will use and develop various tactics and strategies to overcome opponents in both team and individual games, enhancing their competence and confidence in physical activities.

DEPARTMENT STRENGTHS AND RESOURCES
The department is extremely well resourced with high quality sports facilities and lessons are taught by experienced and well qualified staff. Students have access to a range of indoor and outdoor spaces in order to access their physical education curriculum. The department also offers a variety of opportunities to develop students’ physical attributes through an extensive extra-curricular programme before and after school, allowing students to continue to take part regularly in physical activities and competitive sports.
HOW STUDENTS WILL BE ASSESSED
Students will continue to be assessed against our Head, Heart and Hands PE Curriculum for each of the activity areas that they participate in.
PROGRESSION ROUTES
Our aim is to support each student in leading a healthy, active lifestyle throughout their life. Through physical education, students will develop the competence and confidence to participate in a broad range of physical activities, fostering teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving skills. This physical literacy will help them build resilience, embrace success, and prepare for future challenges. PE also offers numerous opportunities and transferable skills that will benefit both their educational journey and future careers.
Furthermore, the skills and habits developed in PE will support students' progression into post-16 education. Whether they pursue academic, technical, or vocational pathways, the ability to work collaboratively, lead effectively, and solve problems will be invaluable. These transferable skills and competencies are essential for success in further education, apprenticeships, and the workplace.
