Physical Education
At Highfields School, our Physical Education (PE) curriculum is designed to support the holistic development of our students, encompassing their head (knowledge development), hands (physical development), and heart (character development). We believe that PE is about far more than just excelling in sports and it should enable all students to enjoy, engage and develop in sport and physical activity.
Our high-quality curriculum is designed to inspire every student to take part, do their best, and learn from both success and challenge. Through a comprehensive and inclusive approach, we aim to equip our students with the knowledge, skills, confidence and physical competence for a lifelong commitment to physical activity and personal well-being, supporting them to lead a healthy active lifestyle.
We believe that a healthy body supports a healthy mind and in PE, students are encouraged to enjoy learning, celebrate achievements, and grow in confidence. Through a broad range of activities—including team games, net and striking sports, dance, fitness, athletics, and aesthetic movement—students experience success and develop a positive attitude towards staying active. Our lessons promote enjoyment, personal growth, and self-esteem, while also helping students develop valuable life skills such as resilience, leadership, and teamwork.
We also offer an extensive enrichment programme before and after school which is open to all students regardless of their experience in sport. Students have opportunities to explore physical activity further, represent the school team across multiple sports and competitions, and build friendships through shared sporting experiences. Our strong commitment to school sport has also been recognised through our platinum school games mark award.
For students with a keen interest in sport, our Key Stage 3 curriculum provides a strong foundation for academic progression in Physical Education. This includes the opportunity to study courses in GCSE PE, Level 2 Applied courses, A-Level PE and Level 3 Applied courses, offering pathways for those interested in sport-related careers or further study.
