Knowledge Organisers
At Highfields, we have produced knowledge organisers for the subjects taught in Years 7 and 8, to support students with their learning in class and independent study at home. Knowledge organisers aim to support all students, regardless of their ability or starting point.
Knowledge organisers underpin our knowledge-rich curriculum. They include a summary of the core knowledge, skills and vocabulary for each subject and provide an overview of the learning journey for each term. Every knowledge organiser is specific to each subject and year group. The information contained on each knowledge organiser is the minimum a student needs to learn in that subject for each term.
Research shows that ‘knowledge is sticky’ – the more knowledge you know, the easier it is to learn new knowledge. If new knowledge is only covered once and not revisited or revised, it is not stored in the long-term memory.
Our knowledge organisers are available to students, parents and carers so that everyone is fully aware of the key knowledge and skills that teachers want students to learn each term. Parents and carers can use the knowledge organisers to support their child with independent study and to help them prepare for standard assessments.
We want students to regularly use their knowledge organisers to support their revision and review learning. Knowledge organisers will be used in lessons and we expect them to be used at home to support with homework, revision and development of subject vocabulary.
Under each subject logo, you will be able to access the knowledge organisers for each year and term. Additionally, termly PDF booklets can be downloaded using the links at the bottom of the page.
Please note that some subjects are taught on a rotation, so will only be studied for part of the academic year. You will be able to identify which subjects a student is currently studying by referring to their timetable on MCAS.
