Performance

Performance plays an important part in enriching our curriculum at Highfields, giving our students the opportunity to nurture their talents, perform in front of live audiences and work with industry professionals. 

From lunchtime Choir twice a week to Drama club, rock band rehearsals, ukulele lessons and dance classes that run throughout the school year, we run a packed performance programme for students.

One of the highlights of the performance programme is the annual school musical productions; our Upper School Production, which is staged over four nights after the autumn half-term and our Lower School Production, which takes place after the spring half-term. Every student is encouraged to take part in the production, whether they want to take on a leading role, perform in the chorus, play in the live orchestra or help out backstage with props or on the technical team.

As well as providing students of every ability with the opportunity to take part in a range of activities from all genres, our performance programme complements the curriculum to help develop well-rounded, socially skilled and confident students - and, most importantly, is fun for everyone involved. It also teaches them important skills to integrate into their everyday lives, such as time management, commitment, teamwork and social skills, all of which enhance their CVs and UCAS applications.

Students involved in any of our performance activities are given numerous opportunities to perform in front of live audiences, including at the school's annual Autumn Festival and Christmas Concert. Whilst we are proud to have seen many of our students make their debuts on the professional stage, we are equally proud of all the students who perform for the first time at school. We regularly invite professional actors, musicians and dancers into school for workshops to inspire our students' love of performing.
