Digital Literacy
Digital Life Skills
All students in Year 7 follow a bespoke programme that creates independent, resilient, and confident learners. The development of Digital Life Skills was driven by a skills gap in how to effectively use digital applications to deepen students’ learning. Digital Life Skills focuses on four key themes:
Digital Skills
Personal Development
The 4Rs – The Science of Learning
Oracy
All students are issued with a laptop in Year 7, and it is vital that they have the opportunity to develop digital skills that will enable them to be successful across the curriculum. Students work towards ten digital standards which includes Teams, One Note, Word and PowerPoint etc. and through several personal development units that provide the necessary context for the digital standards being taught. For example, students are taught how to use Excel through a unit on financial capability and in particular the importance of budgeting.
They are also taught about the importance of the 4Rs which teaches students how the memory works, the importance of retrieval practice and practical strategies that they can use to support their learning across the curriculum.
Oracy is developed using structured discussions, debate and the importance of listening to ensure other students views are heard and taken into account. In Digital Life Skills, students have the opportunity to gain the skills needed to be successful in Oracy and again support them in all subjects.
