At Highfields the RE curriculum intends to create students who have an awareness and understanding of both religious and secular world views through delivery of a varied and reflective curriculum.  The RE curriculum sets out to challenge and answer questions about what it means to be human, arising out of and relating to different religious, spiritual and secular traditions.  Through the study of RE students are encouraged to develop their own sense of identity and what it means to belong, so that they may flourish in their communities and in the diverse global community.

It is our aim that students develop a knowledge and understanding of religious traditions and other world views, an awareness of the influence of belief on individuals and community and the similarities and differences in and between traditions.  We shall support their development of a sense of personal identity and community, while promoting respect and sensitivity towards the beliefs of others.  We also encourage them to evaluate ideas of belief, truth, ethics, purpose and aim to support their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

The study of RE at Highfields aims to build and develop a rich knowledge and conceptual understanding of the following six key concepts: Creation and the natural world, Community, Worship, Tradition, Celebrations and Symbolism.

In years 7-9 students will develop knowledge and understanding of Christianity and aspects of other principal religions in the UK, as well as secular world views. Throughout Key Stage 3 aspects of Sikhism, Judaism, Hinduism, Islam, and Buddhism are all studied. At Key Stage 4 students study the AQA 9-1 Religious Education specification.  At Key Stage 5 students study the OCR A Level Philosophy and Ethics course.
